A 20 Minutes Talk Interview with Dylan Walker

In the current digital era, there is a lot of music being produced, but despite this, there is still room for a small number of new artists to break through onto the scene. In my opinion, one of those artists is singer/songwriter Dylan Walker.Dylan Walker

“A lot of the music today is too produced, too similar and too focused around a goal of becoming famous. What happened to real music sung from the soul with real lyrics written from the heart? I miss it. However, for me, Dylan’s music brings this back. It’s real. Sung from his soul and you can really feel every lyric he sings was written from his heart. He doesn’t sing for the ‘likes’ on instagram. He sings because he loves music. His music tell’s a story.”

Well lets discover more about Dylan in this set interview.

What first got you into music?

The short answer is my Dad. I travelled a lot playing tennis growing up and so a lot of my childhood was spent in the car on the road. And, back then with no iPhone to kill the time, we used to listen to the Radio. My Dad was a big lover of old music, anything from the 60’s and 70s and maybe the 80s too (in my opinion the best music). He used to sing-a-long and I guess after a few plays I picked up the lyrics and would sing with him. For me, it’s a really fond memory and I also I loved the stories old songs told – and from that a passion from music was born inside me.

Now we all have listened to a lot of music growing up, from lullabies as a child to The Beatles, but was there a particular song or artist that inspired you on your journey to becoming an artist yourself and the type of music you make?

Theres two, well three artists in particular. Two past and one present. The two past artists that inspired me the most would have to be Elvis Presley and The Beatles. I don’t need to say anymore really, I’m sure everyone can relate. For me these guys changed the music industry forever, so much so, that still after many years later there legacy’s live on as strong as ever and their music is still played. But it was their authenticness and outright musical talent that inspires me the most. And, the third artist, who’s current too, would have to be Ed Sheeran. One because he’s unbelievably musically talented, but two because he did it his away – he didn’t try to fit a mould or stereotype – he let his music speak for himself. This I admire.

Who inspired you to make music?

The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Ed Sheeran

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

If we could bring Elvis Presley back I’d love to do a stripped back acoustic version of Can’t Help Falling in Love – with him. Otherwise, currently, it would have to be John Mayor. There is literally nothing that guy can’t play on a guitar.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

Don’t try to be someone else. Be yourself.

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

I do, but my shower singing is not to be heard haha, because it’s songs I cannot sing! I sing a bit of everything though from Shania Twain to the Righteous Brothers. Anything with an unreachable note.

What is the most useless talent you have?

I can spin a pen/pencil 360 degrees around my thumb and catch it in-between my thumb and finger without dropping it

How do you feel the internet has impacted the music business?

I think it’s been a good and bad thing. Good in the sense it’s allowed more artists to be heard and get their music out there, when before they may have just gone unnoticed to most. But, personally I think it’s also a bad thing as it’s made a lot of music more about image and show and less about making great music.

What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

I enjoy my career so can’t answer that, haha!

If you could have changed anything about the industry, what would it be?

I’d make pay for smaller artists fairer. Not always, but often, a lot of their earnings from their hard-work gets swallowed up by big players in the industry.

What is you favourite song to perform?

I’d have to say a new song I wrote actually which isn’t out yet called ‘We Are Meant To Be’.

What’s next for you?

Well, my new single ‘All I Need Is You’ comes out this Friday (19th Mar 2021), so I’ll be promoting that as much as I can. And then it’ll be back in the studio to work on my next 2 singles which I’ve written, ‘Life Began With You’ and ‘We Are Meant To Be’. Which, I can’t wait for you to hear. They’ll be coming out in June and July hopefully.
